Your Local Pharmacy and COVID-19
The pandemic has changed the course of life as we know it in almost every aspect. While some industries are still finding new ways to adapt to the limitations of COVID-19, others are becoming extremely accommodating by distinguishing themselves as a resource throughout the pandemic. Pharmacies and local pharmacies, in particular, have become one of the leading resources throughout the pandemic.
Local pharmacies are equipped to provide excellent COVID-19 resources to you and your region. Take a look at some of the things local pharmacies are doing to protect you and your community against COVID-19:
Vaccination Clinics. Many local pharmacies are offering scheduled and walk-in appointments for a COVID-19 vaccine. This is making it extremely easy for you and those in your community to receive their vaccines. Pharmacies are also supplying plenty of information to go along with the vaccine, such as side effect information, ingredients, age group restrictions, etc. As always, you should always check with your local pharmacy to see which vaccine they are offering and if that vaccine is right for you.
Vaccine Credentials. In addition to your vaccine, your local pharmacy will likely be able to provide proof of your vaccination with an official record card. This will make it easier for you to go places that may require vaccination to enter, like schools/universities, foreign countries, travel, etc.
COVID Tests. Taking a COVID-19 test has become standard procedure for many of us, especially for essential workers required to be around large groups of people. Pharmacies will be able to provide a COVID test to you with varied speed: some are 15-minute rapid tests, 24-hour tests, and others take a few days to get back results.
Telehealth. “Telehealth” has come to mean several things in the pandemic. Many pharmacies are offering virtual appointments to patients who need to be seen by a doctor, but aren’t comfortable meeting in person. This is a great option for those just checking in with a doctor, or refilling a prescription. Some pharmacies are also offering virtual series to inform the public on different aspects of COVID-19, like vaccine information, new strains, and updates on restrictions as we learn more about the virus.
Health and Safety Precautions. Like so many other businesses, pharmacies are taking every precaution to keep you safe while you visit in-store. Expect social distancing, face masks being worn and being provided, hand sanitizer stations, and enhanced cleaning procedures throughout stores. Some pharmacies are also offering curbside pick-up or drive-through windows for prescription pick-up, and sometimes even home delivery.
